The cable I had was 25 feet and it was not that expensive about $7.00. I use my lap top and the built in camera and mike. I turn the lap top toward the students who are seated. They can see the SmartBoard which is to the back of the lap top. The students can see the SmartBoard and also ask their questions from their seats. If you’re using a web cam and mike I don’t see any reason why this set up would not work. Hope you don’t give up on Skyping would like to Skype again with you. Kay
