Announcing a New #Hashtag

I’m a big fan of hastags. Hashtags, on Twitter, help make the connecting and collaborating so much easier. Hashtags have led to some wonderful Twitter chats. Here are some of my favorite hastags.

  • #Catholic
  • #CatholicEdChat
  • #Nebedchat
  • #tlap Teach Like a Pirate
  • #w00t
  • any #EdCamp
  • any conference I’m attending #NCEA #NETA #GPSummit
  • any conference I’m not attending! I can follow their hashtag.

Although I’m not a 4th grade teacher or a Kindergarten teacher, both groups have wonderful chats.

  • #4thChat
  • KinderChat

I’m proposing a new hashtag for those who teach at a Catholic school, #CatholicEduWin.

I’m a big fan of the EdReach Media Network. It’s made up of many educators who gather to share their ideas through blogs, podcasts or a Google + Hangout. My favorite podcast, of this network, is the Teacher Tech Talk. When I have more time, I enjoy listening to the Google Educast, Mobile Reach, MacReach and the LitTech Show. Can you tell I enjoy podcasts?!

The EdReach Network started a hashtag called the #EduWin. It’s purpose was to share some good news from your classroom. I know if you think back, you could find an #EduWin everyday, the problem could be tweeting it in under 140 characters.

During the last school year, I had #Eduwins when we Skyped with a student’s grandfather, who was visiting Africa. But we also had 2 Skype calls that I would refer to as a #CatholicEduWin. We Skyped with a graduate from our school who is a priest. Fr. Andy Roza shared with us what it was like to be a priest. Now that is a #CatholicEduWin. We also Skyped with another graduate who is the principal at a Catholic School in Tacoma, WA. We played Mystery Skype with Dr. Uhl’s students. And that was a #CatholicEduWin.

Remember when the news of Pope Francis came out? How many of you had stopped everything and watched the news? For me, it was a very special time with my students. Years later, I will remember that day especially since I shared the election of Pope Benedict XVI with one of my student’s older brother in 2005.

Are you getting the idea? Telling the story of your Catholic classroom can be easier using this hashtag. Look and see what other teachers from Catholic schools are doing. Communicate what you are doing and share! If you don’t tell your story, who will?
