A Special Sending Off Party

Tonight, my dear friend Jo invited several of her friends to her home for an unusual sending off party. We were sending off her 5 foot statue of St. Joseph! 21 years ago, Jo went to a special auction. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were leaving town and closing up their convent. They held an auction for the many items of religious art. Jo has a special devotion to St. Joseph and bid on it and won. It became a special center piece to her home and every time I visited, I smiled at seeing this beloved Saint statue in her home.??

Jo is now a Religious Education coordinator for 3 parishes and heard through the grapevine that Immaculate Conception church was looking for a St. Joseph statue. Because Jo doesn't have any Catholic nieces or nephews to pass this statue onto, she thought it would be best to give the statue to this church.??

So, tonight was a good-bye party to her St. Joseph statue. A total of 11 women gathered at her home. We prayed the Rosary and Jo wrote some fitting reflection on the life of St. Joseph. We ended the Rosary with the song,??Sing of Mary. Jo found a special verse that was all about St. Joseph. Our singing was accompanied by a flute and guitar.??

We ended the party with a homemade chocolate layer cake with chocolate frosting and vanilla ice cream. And many pictures were taken.??

Tomorrow, St. Joseph will be moved by pickup truck to a local Religious restoration shop. We will meet up again in a few months when St. Joseph is installed in his new home!
