A Visit from a Jubilarian

Today we had the wonderful fortune of meeting a Sister, a Servant of Mary, who is celebrating her 60th year as a Sister. Sr. J was so kind to take time out of her day to visit with my students. She was born in South Africa and came dressed in the traditional garb of the people of her homeland. She visited with us for about 30 minutes and my students were such good listeners. The questions my students had were very thoughtful. We found out that she speaks 5 languages. She said hello in the 5 different languages she speaks. She told us as a missionary, she had to learn the language of the people she lived with. She also shared her experiences with apartheid. She spoke so straight forward and I believe that made a big impression on my students. I have taught about our countries's segregation, but that seemed so long ago to my students. We had a person, in front of us, who has recently experienced discrimination.??

After she left, we prayed a Hail Mary for her continued safety because she hopes to go back to South Africa next year to visit her family. What a wonderful experience to meet Sr. J.??
