Remember that wonderful childhood book called Are You My Mother? If you have forgotten that book, here is a lovely reading done by Uncle Larry.

When I attended Podstock, an ed tech conference, back in July in Wichita, Kansas, I had the best time introducing myself to the conference attendees. It usually started like this, “Are you my friend?” My new friend Mary from Dallas, Texas, got a kick out of this! She laughed at how serious I took finding my Twitter friends. She thought it reminded her of P.D. Eastman’s book Are You My Mother? I WAS very serious about this! It’s hard to tell who’s who when you have a 1 inch by 1 inch avatar to go by. I wanted to make sure I had met everyone I followed and put that name with that face.
One reason I wanted to meet my friends ‘In Real Life’ is to make a connection. While Twitter is fun and I sure learn a lot, it’s wonderful to know and remember that the people I tweet with are real people! Something to always keep in mind before you make that snarky tweet.
I also love matching up avatars with people, I had my iPod Touch in my hand and tried to remember tweets and stories that my twitter friends had made. I also love finding out the story behind their Twitter name or avatar.
So, if I come up to you at the CNMC in Boston this weekend, don’t be surprised if I ask you, “Are you my friend?” And if we aren’t already friends…let’s be friends!
If you see a guy on fire, despite my avatar, that won’t be me. 😉 That being said, I look forward to answering you with a big, resounding "YES!"
Carlos, Love it! I’ll get to add you to my "People I’ve Met IRL" list too.
