Grandma Toots' Cabin is very near the Blue Ridge Parkway, so today we drove to Cumberland Knob Recreation Area for a hike on the Gully Creek Trail. It's a beautiful trail! We use a book by Randy Johnson called Hiking The Blue Ridge Parkway as a resource to find great hikes. This book lists that this trail is 2.5 miles and is a strenuous hike. I had my hiking boots and poles and it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete the trail. The elevation change is 820 feet. But the creek at the bottom is so beautiful! There were many times we crossed the creek. So we got to hear the sound of the water running over the rocks several times. There were dense rhododendron shrubs and ferns. Isabelle even hiked with us. Now she is sleeping, I think the hike wore her out.??
Sounds beautiful. I worry about dehydration when hiking at 35C or more. Glad you had a great time.
