My Techy-Geeky Goals for 2011

Happy New Year! What’s a new year without resolutions? Here are my resolutions/goals…geek style!

  • Read 40 books: I’m currently reading a book called The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child. This book has really resonated with me. I love to read, but I have noticed some of my students haven’t caught the reading bug yet. One strategy that this author puts forth is to have at least 30 minutes of quiet reading time each day and each student is assigned to read 40 books a year. So, how does a geek keep track of this goal? With the website Good Reads! I signed up yesterday and really enjoy the Twitter styling of this site. I friended all of my Twitter friends who are on this site and I’m able to see what they are currently reading and see what they have read. This is a huge plus for me because I have a hard time knowing what to read next!
  • Eat Healthy: I know this is always a big resolution/goal for many people at the start of the year. As I get older, I notice what happens when I don’t eat healthy…very quickly. To help me keep on track, I’m rejoining Weight Watchers. They have a new program called Points Plus and it sounds better than the old program. I’m going to use the online method since my dear leader, Evelyn, retired. I am a Lifetime member, but I’m some pounds away from that weight goal!
  • Keep an eye on finances: I have 3 sons in college! Need I say more?! Luckily they are paying for college with scholarships and grants, but we are still providing for them with room and board. I use the online site Mint to keep my eye on how our money is spent and which category can be tightened up.

Good luck to all those who are setting forth resolutions for 2011!
