Each year our parish and school promote Catholic Relief Sevices’ Operation Rice Bowl. I love using their material in my classroom. They send out a wonderful teacher’s guide for me. Every school family receives a paper rice bowl to put together for their donations and a calendar. Each week of Lent, the material highlights a country where CRS has a presence. Now that I have a SmartBoard, I can project their material up on the screen for all of my students to see. They sometimes have movies or a PowerPoint about the countries they feature. I also use Google Earth to show my students where the countries are. The calendar also highlights a native dish from each country. Many times, I hear from a student that their family tried the dish!
CRS Lenten slogan is Pray, Fast, Learn, and Give. I believe they do help my young ones incorporate these principles during their Lenten journey towards Easter. Here is their website to learn more. http://orb.crs.org/
