April is poetry month. We have a lot of fun with this in my third grade classroom. One activity I always do is put today a booklet of great poems. We take some time, every day to enjoy reciting some poems. Since I believe great poetry should be heard!
One of my favorite poems is The Purple Cow by Gelett Burgess. I have fond memories of that poem from my Childcraft Encyclopedia Poetry book growing up. The picture, next to the poem, was of a purple cow!
I’m familar with Librovox from my friend @Sean_McGaughey. What I understand it to be is a free public sharing of work that is in the Creative Commons. One year I was Googling around to find out how to pronounce Gelett Burgess’s name. I came across an April Fools reading of The Purple Cow. Several Librovox members added their own twist to the classic poem. My students loved it! It reinforced the use of inflection and pace in reciting a poem.
