Serendipity

Or the story of a stubbed toe, the love of dogs and the Schwinn recumbent exercise bike.??

??
Our story begins on Wednesday morning. I was going through the garage to the deep freeze to get a pork tenderloin to defrost for Wednesday night dinner. I stubbed my toe on the exercise bike that was stored in the garage.??
??
It’s a nice exercise bike given to us by my mother in law, Grandma Toots. She gave it specifically to my husband because she was concerned about his eating habits. At that time, he was eating 3 hot dogs every day for lunch! Luckily he’s stopped that diet and did use the bike to prepare for his two trips he has made, with our sons, to the Boy Scout High Adventure trip to Philmont.??
??
Coming home from school on Wednesday night, I put the tenderloin into the oven and sat down to peruse Twitter. A tweet from the Nebraska Humane Society caught my eye. A photographer by the Twitter name of @CatchCreative was taking photos of the dogs and cats that are currently available at the Humane Society. I’m a sucker for a cute dog picture. What a nice thing for a professional photographer to do, I thought!
??
I clicked on her Twitter account and saw that she was also posting You Tube videos made with her flip camera about her weight loss journey. Her videos are entitled 150 lbs or Bust! I watched her video from that morning where she started on a walk and had to stop because of her knee pain. She put out a plea for a stationary bike.??
??
Now. I’m not the type of person to jump right out and offer a perfect stranger a bike, but she had the same last name of a young man I went to grade school with. My town is a ‘small’ town and I thought, I’ll message her and see where this goes.??
??
Turns out, her brother is the young man I went to grade school with! We made plans for them to pick up the bike yesterday.
??
On Saturday, after 33 years, I was able to see my old classmate, Carl, and pass on our unneeded bike to someone who could use it. It was great fun to meet Beth and hear a little bit of her inspiring story. She is bound and determined to make healthy changes. She videos what she eats every day. You can watch her progress here. She’s lost 40 pounds so far!??
??
??
Our story could be looked at as a serendipitous meeting of an old classmate and a sister who needed a stationary bike or it could be looked at as something helped along by God. Which would you say???
