I hiked 20 miles!

Is there a patch for that? I'll have to check the scout shop.??

Everyday during our stay with Grandma Toots, we hiked. Her cabin is located near the Blue Ridge Parkway and there are many wonderful places to hike. We decided to hike the Gully Creek Trail at Cumberland Knob everyday. It is a 2 1/2 mile trail. Somedays we hiked in the early evening. Most days we hiked in the morning, sometimes in the early morning because of the heat. We alternated hiking the trail clock-wise and counter clock-wise. We were lucky to take our dog, Isabelle, on the trail. She loved it! She would stay close to us going downhill, to the creek, but lead the way going up hill.??

DH is an experienced hiker having hiked the Appalachian Trail, the Black Hills and Philmont Scout Ranch. I am a newbie at hiking, but I'm well equipped. I use hiking poles, hiking boots and wear a special shirt that wicks away moisture. DH carried the water in a backpack.??

Hiking this trail took between 1 hour and 30 minutes and 1 hour and 45 minutes. On the days that were more humid, I think I stopped more for water breaks. I also had to stop to swat away gnats. Why were the gnats only attracted to me? Was it because I was sweet???

I'm a lifetime member of WeightWatchers and I use the app they provide on my iPod Touch. I calculated that I earned 5 activity points for each hike. But I was enjoying all the delicious vacation food offered here and I think I broke even. Can't wait to weigh in next week!??

Congrats Barb! I have to admit that when I first read it, I was thinking "whoa! 20 miles?! That’s Fr. Roderick/Dr. Camarata territory!" Even if it is over a handful of trips, I’m sure it’ll reflect in your next weigh in.Even now as I’m online this morning, I was trying to see what gym’s are near the places we will be on vacation later this month. It’s not easy to maintain my same levels of cardio while taking the entire family to the midwest.

Thanks for the comment Scott! I think DH’s evil plan was to show me that I could do a real hike by adding up the miles. He really wants me to go with him on the Centennial Trail in South Dakota next summer.
