Skyping the First Week of School!

  1. Hi Barb and members of the 3rd grade. One thing I did with my granddaughter was to write a mystery story — but only the first chapter. I sent the first chapter to her and then she had to write the second chapter. She sent it to me and then I did the third chapter, etc. Would you like to try this with me? Blessings. deacon tom

  2. Deacon Tom, very interesting and cool idea! I would love to explore this idea with you.

  3. I would love to help your 3rd graders connect with 3rd graders on the Gulf of Mexico. One of the sad things that a teacher from down there said this summer on our webcast, Teachers Teaching Teachers was that her first assignment might be: What did you not do this summer? I don’t think she went with that, but several teachers are working with the restrictions children are experiencing. Please consider joining our site http://voicesonthegulf.org and take a look at the Our Space channel. Thanks for you reflections!

  4. Paul, thank you for linking to your site! I have to get Skype permission slips from my 3rd graders first, but that would be a great Skype call with 3rd graders from the area affected by the oil spill. Let’s keep in touch!

  5. What a great way to motivate students to write (and to write effectively!) I understand everyoneinvolved benefitted from your Skype Call. I am Stacey Ferguson, a 5th grade teacher on the Gulf Coast in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi and I may "steal" your idea in the future. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Stacey, ‘steal’ away! I get so many ideas from my PLN. It was a great way to start the year and my brother is now on retainer to begin our school year every year!
